Donna Karan up for BIG Award
June 7, 2010 will be a day that several lucky designers will never forget. The CFDA Fashion Awards will be held at 6:30pm tomorrow, Monday June 7th. CFDA stands for Council of Fashion Designers of America. Each year the council awards a large amount of money in scholarships and this year will be no different, with a staggering $130,000 in scholarships.
With several awards given out, one major award, Womenswear Designer of the Year, will be awarded to one of the three following: Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang or Donna Karan.
Donna Karan who is going to be celebrating her 25th year in fashion has some tough competition, but with her timeless designs she will put up a big fight for the win. She has many lines including DKNY and Donna Karen, Donna Karan Signature, and Donna Karan Kids.
DNKY Yankees
When you think of sports what’s probably one of the last things on your mind? My guess would be fashion. Have you ever noticed while sitting in any baseball stadium, there are business logos all around the field? Businesses including: banks to airlines and fast food restaurants, but never clothing lines or stores. DKNY is now changing that and will be the first fashion brand to be represented in a sports stadium. It seems extremely fitting for the DKNY brand to post their logo in the city’s stadium that they represent, the New York Yankees.
The permanent outfield bullpen DKNY sign will be located in right centerfield, and will feature the skyline of the city. I wonder if this will push other fashion brands to represent the huge industry in other sports arenas/stadiums. And who knows, maybe the players will take notice and start dressing a little more fashionable…or not.

Lucky Brand is Not so Lucky
Unfortunately for one hot brand, a lawsuit is filed and they become no-so-lucky.
The Miami brand stated in their lawsuit that the Lucky Brand Jeans are intruding upon their own line with the phrase "get lucky." This lawsuit was evidently brought upon by a lawsuit issued by Lucky Brand against Marcel Fashion Group stating that they were the ones who were going against Lucky Brand's trademark.
A federal judge said Liz Claiborne Inc.'s popular denim line Lucky Brand Dungarees infringes on a Miami company's trademark and ordered the clothier to pay $300,000 in damages. The Marcel company first debuted their "Get Lucky" line in the year 1985, whereas Lucky Brand did not become a trademark until 1991.
At the end of the day, the chief legal officers for Lucky Brand says they will no longer be using the slogan "get lucky" to ensure they don't step on any more toes.
Is That Purse Real? "Yeah, Real Fake"
Many designers are copied for their famous handbags, but never are they of the quality and high standings of the real ones. People can buy these fakes many places, including, but not limited to: purse parties, street vendors, and small accessory boutiques.
Many people believe they are recieving a real designer handbag, that is damaged in some way and sold at a cheaper price. Guess what ladies? That is a lie. Designer's do not allow their damaged goods to be sold for a smaller price tag, in fact if they find a damaged purse they will completely shred the bag and destroy it to ensure no one can identify it.
So how can you tell a real from a fake? This is a checklist to ensure you are recieving a real Kate Spade bag versuses a fake.
Step 1- Look for fabric tags sewn or glued on leather purses. This is a sure sign that you've got a fake. Kate Spade always embosses her name on leather rather than using the fabric tag she uses on microfiber, cotton or other fabric bags.
Step 2- Pay attention to the shape and size of the letters on the label. Go to the Kate Spade website to view authentic labels and compare the font on the suspected fake (see Resources below). If the letters vary in any way, your suspicions are justified. Kate Spade only uses one style of lettering on all of her purses.
Step 3- Be suspicious of color block purses, bags with two small front pockets and backpacks. While Kate Spade did design bags like these, they were all produced over a decade ago and are hard to find. Most often, bags with these attributes are fakes.
Step 4- Look out for large metal feet on the bottom of Kate Spade purses. Big, pointy metal studs or ones wider than the size of a dime are signs that you're not looking at a real Kate Spade purse.
Step 5- Question any Kate Spade purse that looks like another designer's work. Purses that seem similar to ones made by Dior, Burberry, Coach and other high end designers yet have a Kate Spade label are definite fakes. Kate Spade has a very distinct style and never copies her competitor's lines.
Step 6- Rule out purses with a single large black stripe on top, sunflower prints, toile, camouflage, tie-dye or prints with the faces of celebrities. These are very popular fakes-and not at all similar to any authentic Kate Spade designs.

Kardashian vs. Longoria
What’s the first thing that pops into every Fashionista’s mind when they hear Juicy Couture? I guarantee it’s tracksuits and celebrities in tracksuits. In particularly, I think of two very well known and gorgeous celebrities who enjoy these not so gorgeous tracksuits: Kim Kardashian and Eva Longoria.
In these certain pictures both ladies go in different directions for the looks they are trying for. Kardashian is going for a more look at me look and looks all done up, where as Longoria is showing off her natural beauty and just looking comfy and cozy. Kim shows off her sexy curves in her suit, while Eva just looks slim with little curve, which we know to be false.
While I do have to say both ladies have great bodies that look great in the tracksuits, they suits really do no justice for these lovely ladies. Personally the thoughts that go through my mind when looking at these suits are tacky, overdone and just plain ugly.
So who wears it better? Don’t let my thoughts change your mind, I’ll let you decide...
